The best way to defeat the devil in spiritual warfare is by learning how to fight him from the greatest and the best general that we’ve ever heard of.

The good news is that Jesus can ensure us victory upon victory in that field if we’re willing to do what He did in the desert when we are tempted by the devil.

In fact, He’s given us such a powerful battle plan within the Word of God that we can use in order to defeat Satan.

Spiritual Warfare

Living for Jesus is an ongoing battle.

You’ll probably run across various opinions along with plan of actions concerning how to be victorious regarding how to wage spiritual warfare.

In that case, if someone is serious about being victorious in that field, such person would surely want to get vital instructions from the best and the most powerful leader of such warfare that the world has ever known or heard of.

Jesus has proven Himself to be the One who can help us by defeating Satan and death that are known as the greatest of all enemies of humankind.

He is also known as the Captain of our salvation.

The Weapon Jesus Used To Resist Satan

Let’s examine how Jesus resisted Satan in the wilderness in this account below

The tempter came to Him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every Word that comes from the mouth of God.’ (Matthew 4:3-4).

Matthew chapter 4 talks about a strange event that transpired between both Christ and Satan in the wilderness. This event is a highly critical one due to the fact that it literally had the potential to destroy humanity.

Christ as God manifested in the flesh as well as the Son of God in order to become the blameless and spotless lamb of God would have lost that qualification had He allowed Satan to deceive Him through the temptations that were directed toward Him.

Let’s take a closer look at that particular event. It’s quite interesting that Satan used Scripture in order to make his case three times. Besides, he quoted Scriptures for each occasion, and he didn’t try to even question who Jesus was.

He only tried to get Jesus to affirm His identity by doing what he tempted Him to do. Having said that, the devil’s acknowledgment of the authority of the Word of God is made plain in this incident.

The problem stems with the fact that he’s an accomplished liar as well as the father of lies (John 8:44), so he tried to use Scriptures in order to make them convey something that they were not intended to by twisting them to make them fit his own destructive agenda.

How Jesus Responded

Before getting into how Jesus responded to the devil, let’s take into consideration this point. It’s affirmed in the Bible that Christ is known as the Word (John 1:1).

In addition to that, (Revelation 19:13) also makes it quite obvious. Thus, whatever was spoken by Christ could have immediately converted into Scripture, and would have carried the same level of authority as the other Scriptures that were already written down, if He so desired.

But, that wasn’t what He did upon confronted by the distorted Scriptures Satan was throwing at Him. Instead, He quoted Scriptures that were already in existence within the Old Testament.

Scriptures that could be accessed by those who were living in that period. As man and Savior of humanity, He was trying to set a clear example concerning how we ought to live on this planet by using the Word of God as our foundation in order to fend off the schemes and devices of the enemy.

Knowing The Word

As God, He knew beforehand that we were all going to find ourselves in an continuing battle with Satan. Therefore, He didn’t use any weapon that’s beyond our reach.

His response to Satan by quoting Old Testament Scripture truly highlights that the ideal way of responding to the devil when attempting to deceive us is by quoting Scripture back at him.

As a result, it’s of great significance that we spend quality amount of time learning and meditating on the Word of God (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 119:11, Psalm 119:105) because the enemy thrives on people’s ignorance about the intrinsic power of Scripture.

Our ability to resist and discern him properly is connected directly to how much truths we know along with our willingness to apply them to our lives when necessary.

Although, it’s not a serious issue to use rational and logical arguments in order to articulate living standards according to God’s ways or conveying your beliefs in accord with the Bible, but the most effective and powerful strategy to defeat the devil is to use God’s Word as a weapon against him.

Lastly, the final authority is the Word of God; therefore, everybody has to submit to its decree.

See why it’s impossible to please God without faith.
