Two years ago when I discovered Macushla Burke, I was so impressed with the former model's photography that I decided to feature it. I posted without knowing a lot about her or her work, but since then, Macushla has kept me updated on her progress and projects, so it was very exciting when Macushla contacted Ben Trovato a few weeks back telling us she'd shot a story for us. Needless to say, we loved it.
Nevermind is inspired by summer days growing up at the beach, listening to 90’s rock music and the freedom of those days spent on your own time, in your own headspace: "- This fashion story conjures up a lot of feelings for me, as well as encompassing one of my favourite albums when I was growing up. It reminds me of broken hearts, teenage angst, rebellion, wandering aimlessly with beauty in solitude, hence the title ‘Nevermind’"
The story is a collaboration between Macushla and model Christina Dietze with Chadwick, Melbourne: "- I have shot Chrissie many times and because this may be the last chance we get to shoot together in a while. We decided to spend a day, without the rest of the fashion team and enjoy each other’s company whist creating a cool story."
Macushla have nether studied nor sort out fashion photography as her career: "- It has become a passion from my final days modeling, when I felt I had out-grown the days on the casting couch. I needed something that wouldn’t have me stuck in a 9 – 5 job. I have worked hard assisting many of the photographers I once modeled for. I now have a creative outlet that has continued on from being in front of the camera, it has allowed me to express myself, escape and create, and that makes me feel good."
