Sydney based Henryk Lobaczewski never really planned to be a photographer, let alone a fashion photographer: "- While studying graphic design I got a job straight out of university as an Art Director for Lorna Jane, and they hired me under the pretense that I'd shoot their monthly look books as well. I had never used studio lights before. They bought me two. Before I knew it I had fell deeply in love with fashion photography- borrowing and finally buying the lights off the company and resigning to freelance photography back to them while finding more clients. One year after I moved to sydney and set up a studio and the passion remains- all self taught- you just have to love what you do." His clients include Culture Magazine, Triumph Lingerie, Gary Yang, Angus & Julia Stone, and many more, and he enjoys the work of fellow photographers such as Steven Meisel, Miles Aldridge, Camilla Åkrans, Annie Liebowitz, David LaChapelle and Helmut Newton: "- They all have their own unique style in photography which is all individually beautiful" and continues "- All the creative people in the world and how they interpret what they love inspires me, plus beautiful women, beautiful clothes & styling." After making her debut on Ben Trovato in August last year, missAlessia later shot the story There's More To Life Than This for us in December, and now the Ben Trovato regular has once again shot a fantastic story exclusively for us. Gentlewoman features the beautiful Irina Zabalotnikava with UNO Barcelona, she was styled by Cristina Planelles, and make up and hair was done by Oscar Vera and Alvaro Sanchez for Handmade Studio. Wardobe was provided by CH Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs, Celine, Balmain, Mila Schön, Tara Jarmon, Casadei, Thomas Sabo, Bimba & Lola, and Twin Set. Hair and make up was inspired by Sean Young's appearance the famous movie Blade Runner from 1082, starring Harrison Ford. Alessia said back in August that her ideas and inspirations often comes to her in visions, and she uses her camera as a sort notebook to write them down: ” - Other than that I am inspired by a certain state of mind, the body, geometry, city lights, music, architecture and movies.” She has shot for clients such as Nike, Sony BMG, Max Italy, Max Germany, Playboy Germany, FHM, and MTV Italy. Brussels based Nella Balda received her first SRL camera from her husband and after some conceptual shoots with friends she started shooting fashion with professional models in March 2009. Not much later various model agencies contacted her and Nella was able to build a professional portfolio in less than a year. If I had to summarize Nella in a couple of words I would say: natural talent, self taught and truly passionate. During my small chat with Nella I asked her about her source of inspiration: " -I have always been a dreamer I guess. As a kid I'd rather locked myself into the house, watching Disney movies all day long or simply making paintings. You can say I'm influenced by Tim Burton (my next exposition is all about Tim Burtonesque pictures) and the Disney movies from my childhood, especially Alice in Wonderland. From the photographer department Ellen Von Unwerth, Tim Walker, Brian Fround, Maxine Gadd and Josephine Wall belong to my favourite artists." Nella's works has already been published in a few magazines such as Fiasco and F-Hush and featured on CD/book covers for a wide variety of artists. " -My biggest dream would be to be featured in Vogue, Lula or Harpers Bazaar. Or imagine me assisting Tim Walker or Ellen Von Unwerth, wouldn't that be amazingly cool?" Dark Instinct by Greg Adamski

The year was 1992, and Sharon Stone had just had her big break through as Catherine Tramell, a brilliant, bisexual serial killer, in the erotic thriller Basic Instinct, directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Joe Eszterhas. A classic scene the movie will always be remembered for is when Stone is being interrogated by a group of male detectives. Greg Adamski and his team was inspired by the mood and tension of this exact part of the movie, and used it as a foundation for a story for Ben Trovato. Dark Insinct features model Kasia Kaca, she was dressed up by Varvara Frol and her designs, and her hair and make up was done by Katarzyna Stefania Zalewska. Greg Adamski was featured on Ben Trovato back in August with his story Nightwatching, where the Warsaw based photographer expressed his love for the works of the prominent American realist painter Edward Hopper. Back then he also told me he had a few video projects in the making, and since then we have been waiting for this day. Dark Instinct by Greg Adamski, for Ben Trovato, is a story with both video and images. See the full story inside the post. Cecilia Austin grew up in the Philippines, used to live in Brussels (Belgium), and is now based out of San Francisco. The different cultures and impressions have definitely influenced her, and the travels were actually her door into photography: "- I have always had a fascination with photography. My first camera was an Olympus film given to me by my Grandfather when I was 11. Apart from documenting our family travels, I also took photos of family events. Much later on, I started doing street photography and experimented with “fashion” photography with my sister, who has impeccable taste in putting together quirky yet fashionable outfits. In late 2008, my husband gave me my first digital SLR. This allowed me take “proper” portraits of people rather than sneakily capturing moments of strangers. It also made me realize that I truly enjoy coming up with inspired concepts and seeing it unfold through planned shoots." Now her work has been featured in publications such as CHAOS, ALARM, and Ballad Of. She says inspiration comes to her in many different forms, and points out a few: "- films, music, paintings, memories… and I’d like to add that it’s the details in these that allow me to dream of what I can manifest in the “reality” that is in my photography. I love getting lost when watching films; paying the closest attention to details like wallpapers, furniture, outfits, the colors schemes and tones, the moments (I love the last scene in that film Lost in Translation), and the spaces in between moments (in reference to a very simple yet powerful film like 23 Quai du Commerce), and I feel changed when I hear lines like “In the old days, if someone had a secret they didn't want to share... they went up a mountain, found a tree, carved a hole in it, and whispered the secret into the hole. Then they covered it with mud. And leave the secret there forever." – Wong Kar Wai’s In The Mood for Love. All these propel me to conjure my own take on what I can share to hopefully infect someone else to dream and smile." Here's some of her work: More pictures inside the post.

Ben Trovato has a habit of introducing great new talent to the world of fashion photography. Based out of Vancouver, Alex MacPherson has never before had his work published, but today is the day he'll step out in the spotlight. The Education of Amy by Alex MacPherson is a mysterious and seductive story shot exclusively for Ben Trovato, featuring the beautiful models Madison and Tia with Next Canada. Their hair and make up was done by Dan Nguyen. and stylist for the shoot was the wonderful Krista Sung. This is actually the second exclusive BT story Krista has styled now, debuting with the Foxy Saturday story by Alan Chan last month. Wardrobe was provided by Guess, Agent Provocateur, Dolce & Gabbana, Dollhouse, and Carnal Design among others. Alex says this about the story: "- the story is about an innocent young woman being "taught" the ways of seduction by a more dominant woman. In the end, she discovers that she is the more dominant one." He started taking pictures back in 2007 after his mom gave him her old Canon AE-1, and made the move into fashion photography in 2008. His inspiration ranges from art and film to great photography: "- I am inspired by Salvador Dalí for introducing me to the surreal, HR Geiger for his darkness, van Gogh for his colors. Films by Stanley Kubrik, Ridley Scott, Jean-Pierre Jeunet are favorites of mine. I have found inspiration in the works of Mert & Marcus, Peter Lindbergh, Eugenio Recuenco, and Miles Aldridge." Born and raised in Colombia, Javier Lovera moved to Toronto back in 2006 after just having finished his M.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering, but found himself doubting his future in engineering: "- I knew I didn't want to be an engineer but didn't know what I wanted to do. I enrolled in a couple of darkroom photography classes and absolutely fell in love with photography and design. Then my wife introduced me to the photographer Steve Carty and I apprenticed with him for a year until I was starting to get my own work, and here we are now." Now his work has featured in national and international magazines such as NUVO, ZINK, Filler, Poor But Sexy, and Contra Magazine, and in 2009, he was one of the winners of the Applied Arts Magazine Photography Annual competition in the fashion and beauty category. Javier finds inspiration in a lot of things, but says his family might be the most important source of inspiration: "- My wife and family are incredibly inspiring and energizing, and are essential to me to be able to work in this world. My wife is also my best and toughest critic, and I always bounce ideas around with her. I also find that collaboration and conversation with other visual artists always takes your ideas further. Visually and conceptually, I find inspiration in a wide arrange things: films (directors like Fellini, Kurosawa, and Kubrick), the work of other photographer's and artists, literature, graphic design, and music (specially jazz). I don't believe inspiration comes all of a sudden to you. I think you need to actively seek it, feeding yourself in a very honest way with things you find appealing. When you do that, its like a rabbit hole and you can find yourself in unexpected and exciting places." Here's some of his work: More pictures inside the post.

Another day, another amazing debutant. Although Conan Thai's name has appeared in a Ben Trovato Exclusive before (assisted for Grant Yoshino on the BT Exclusive Avenue Of The Beloved), this is his first time being published. Lost In The Analog features the beautiful Lauren Taylor with Ford LA, she's styled by Marci Michalovitz and Alysha Kelley, the make up was done by Brie Leach, and the hair by Chloe Doan. Conan say this about the story: "- The story was inspired by my old college, University of California, Irvine (UCI). The school was built in the '50/60s and the architectural choices leaned towards this post-modern retro-futuristic, brutalist direction. After seeing the buildings almost every day for four years, I forgot how impressive they were. On a recent visit, I rediscovered how beautiful the architecture was when light fell on it at certain times of the day." Conan started shooting at the age of 11 when he got his first camera as a birthday gift from his dad, but didn't decide to go professionally until last year: "- I was a casual photographer since then until a string of events in the summer of 2010 fueled my fervor to pursue it professionally." He claims that a lot of his inspiration comes from children's books, and explains: "- My parents would never let me out of the house when I was younger so I spent most of my childhood immersed in stories of ghosts, pirates, adventurers, talking animals, and magical furniture. Nowadays, the naivete of previous dreams have more or less been distilled into subtler things in life. Photography is now my way of catching the beauty in unexpected, overlooked moments." We are very excited to introduce to you yet another great talent in the fashion photography world. Ronny Danielsen's first memory of photography was when he broke his dad's Rolleiflex at the age of 12. Now he's a well respected photographer based out of Trondheim (Norway), having done work for Dior, Tique, Carne, Sony BMG, Warner Music and many more. When I asked him about his inspirations, he says he normally finds it in other people: "- My obsession is definitely taking pictures of people. In these last years that path has taken me down the fashion and music photography lane. And I've always found inspiration in the works of big photographers such as Richard Avedon, Annie Liebowitz and Anton Corbijn. But my everyday inspiration comes when I least expect it. It can be from the smallest things, a scent of a woman, a word in a conversation, a look, a DJ spinning a good record... It could be everywhere. But I never rush it, I`ll wait til it finally finds me. If it doesn't, it wasn't meant to be." Travelling is also one of Ronny's passions, and being half Spanish he travels to Barcelona twice a year filling up his stack of editorial inspiration: "- I just cant help it, I always end up using a small fortune buying fashion magazines and books of photography while roaming the streets looking at arcitecture at its best. I always find myself at a local corner book store hidden with inspiring treasures." Right now Ronny has a lot of good stuff in the pipeline, where a project with a Norwegian popstar called Malin is the first one coming up. Here's some of his work: More pictures inside the post.

Melbourne based Matt Solomon started taking photography seriously around 2008 when he began shooting bands around Melbourne for press and album artwork, but made the jump to fashion when he felt he needed more freedom to be creative: "- I got sick of bands requesting shots they had already seen in magazines. Fashion photography gave me the freedom to explore my ideas." His jump to fashion photography has been a great success, and as big fans of his work, we at Ben Trovato are excited to present to you his first exclusive story for us. Maybe Tomorrow, A New Romance features the stunning up and coming model Stephanie MacHutchison with Cameron's, her hair and make up was done by Phoebe Goulding, and she was styled by Sarah Carr and Kate Harvey. The wardrobe includes a mixture of vintages pieces with contemporary lables such as Arnsdorf, Maurie&Eve, American Apparel, Zomp, Urban Outfitters and Gorman. Matt says this about the story: "- I think this story really comes from loneliness, the room acting as a metaphor for being stuck in your own head. The model looking for company to keep her mind off being alone and motels are always considered a place to "get away". It also comes from missing my girlfriend who has been traveling for the past six months." Inspiration for most of Matt's work comes from things other than photography, he explains: "- I get inspired by films mostly. I love Pierre Le Fou by Jean Luc Goddard , the colours in that are amazing. I have just fallen in love with the romance of Charlie Chaplin films. And anything Harmony Korine does I am always instantly drawn to. In terms of photographers I can never go past Guy Bourdin but I also really love the contempary photographers like Jonathan Leder." After making her debut on Ben Trovato in January, Los Angeles based Caitlin Bellah traveled to New York to shoot, and one of the stories that was in the pipeline was this elegant story exclusively for BT. "- I wanted to do a shoot that depicted a lonely side of having a baby and being a housewife- being stuck in the house while the husband is at work. I thought it would enhance the concept if it took place in the late 60's/early 70's since housewives were more prevalent," says Tamar Levine, the Los Angeles based photographer who's just shot this conceptually striking story in collaboration with Topsy Design. She continues: "- I also thought it would enhance the concept if it was shot a bit voyeuristically- with zoom lenses, through screens, etc, like someone is spying on this woman. I always like having a bit of humor as well so in came the Jell-O mold." Tamar has shot for clients such as Reebok, Nine Inch Nails, Nylon, Chaos and ABC, and is now making her debut on Ben Trovato with the exclusive Little Boxes. Joy Bishop and her daughter Hazel are models, while Lexi Swain did the hair and make up, and renowned Topsy Design did the props and styling. "- Topsy and I really just played off each others' ideas very well. Once we had the initial concept down, the rest was really just going back and forth with ideas until we had a solid story. They brought in some amazing clothing and props, and we had an equally amazing location which provided some awesome materials to work with. Although a lot of my planning occurs before the shoot, I love the spontaneous moments that happen on set so I try not to only stick with the ideas I come in with. Having Sam and Jared there was great because they are so creative and I love working with people I can bounce ideas off of. It was a very collaborative shoot" says Tamar. Topsy Design consists of Jared Frank and Samantha Jacober, who moved to Los Angeles from Brooklyn in 2009 and started Topsy Design, a multidisciplinary creative company. Under the Topsy banner they have prop and wardrobe styled editorial fashion shoots, production designed and costumed films and music videos, and interior decorated houses. They are probably best known for their online vintage store, which garnered a lot of notice when it opened last year. GQ raved about the “carefully curated line with an eye for weathered simplicity.” BlackBook lauded the "eco-conscious...timeless styles” and Apartment Therapy dug the “elusive blend...a mad topsy-turvy mix.” We are proud the present to you the wonderful Little Boxes, by Tamar Levine, for Ben Trovato: Credits Photography - Tamar Levine Prop and Wardrobe Styling - Topsy Design Hair and Make up - Lexi Swain Models - Joy Bishop and her daughter Hazel Full story inside the post.

Elena Bofill discovered photography at the age of 17, but it wasn't until last year she really started taking it seriously. Already she's considered an up and coming artist in fashion photography, and has shot for magazines such as Fiasco, Double and BG. Now she's ready to make her debut on Ben Trovato with the elegant Le désir, a story shot in her hometown Barcelona, featuring beautiful model Lidija Ristic with UNO. Lidija's hair and make up was done by Christine Petras form LALEMANA Barcelona, and the shoot was styled by Lucía Silva. Elena says she's inspired by the works of fellow photographers such as Camilla Åkrans, Marcus Ohlsson, Marcin Tyszka and Txema Yeste, and adds: "- I feel inspired by all kinds of fashion photography. Gonzalo Corrado started shooting back in 2000 while working as a graphic designer, and hasn't looked back since: "- I got completely caught by it. Now it's all I do." Living in Buenos Aires he is inspired daily by the city life and all that surrounds him, and he actively tries to look at everything as a potential source of inspiration: "- I look at photography everyday and everything that crosses my view is an inspiration in any way. Thinking about “who”, I really admire the work of Eugenio Recuenco, Miles Aldridge, and Steven Klein. I really like their approach to photography. Thinking about “what”, as I said, movies, music, visual arts, old photography, art in general, the female body, fashion, I try to keep an eye on all of that." His work has been published in publications such as Elle, Cosmopolitan, Playboy, Remix, La Nacion among others, and at the moment he finds himself busier than ever: "- I've been working for the fashion section in Playboy Magazine for a while now. I'm preparing and producing ideas for each issue, in this case we are making our next shooting in a couple of days. I'm preparing some summer shoots for Remix, and working on other summer editorials. Elouise van Riet-Gray has been shooting for a few years, but it wasn't until recently that she started pushing it into fashion photography. In fact, if you had asked her a few years ago she wouldn't even know she was going to make her living of photography at all: "- It took me a long time to work out what I wanted to do for a career and it wasn't till after I had children that I finally worked out I was creative. Although I must credit my best friend for giving me a photography book for my 21st birthday, she obviously knew me better than I did then. I really love the collaboration and the creative process of fashion due to combination of eclectic creative minds." Shooting for a lot of commercial clients, Elouise hasn't been able to dedicate much time to fashion photography and getting published. But today she's making her debut on Ben Trovato with a truly magical exclusive story called Lost in Wonderland, featuring wonderful model Lydia Hunt with Viviens Models. Holly Janet Ryan did the styling, while Meg Durrington did hair and make up. Elouise says this about the story: "- The location was an inspiration for this story. Its at a place called the "Old Museum" in Brisbane. Its just on the edge of the CBD but has this crazy garden. Well cared for by Eduardo, he was so proud of his oversized corn, I had to take a shot in the corn....the one with the blue dress and yellow hat. It initially wasn't intended to reference "Alice in Wonderland" but it seemed to head that way during the shoot, so we casually pursued the feeling." She loves the ability to be theatrical and surreal with fashion photography, and says colors, and especially bright colors inspires her: "- My work generally ends up coming back to strong colours and unusual colour combinations. The photographers who stick in my mind also use bright colours, Greg kadel, Troyt Coburn, but an exception to the rule is Rodney Smith." Eva Maierhofer and Ulrich Wolf joined forces and started the duo MAIWOLF back in 2007, after having worked together on projects where Ulrich was an Art Director for one of Eva's commercial clients. And within the four years they have collaborated, MAIWOLF has already worked up a quite impressive client list, including Maxim, Adobe, Dell, Sony Ericsson and many more. Now they're ready to make their debut on Ben Trovato with their first exclusive story for us. Lucy In The Sky is a beautiful and soft story featuring the stunning model Gesche with Promod Model Agency, who was styled by Alexander Huber, and with hair and make up was done by Alexandra Maria Waldher. Ulrich and Eva says this about the story: "- We had the Beatles song "Lucy in the sky with diamonds" in the back of our heads while thinking about this project, particularly the line "climb in the back with your head in the clouds - and you're gone". We know about the drug-related interpretation of the song title, but to us the whole mood of the song has something rather pleasently innocent. So we wanted to put our model up in the sky, not up in heaven or up and away in some hippie-flavoured colour schemes. We wanted to do something very lightweight, floating and flooded with light, almost spherical." The Munich based duo points out music, travel, movies and everyday situations as their main sources of inspiration, and adds: "- And we both read a lot. We try to open our minds to different approaches and styles, and we want to keep experimenting and be diverse in the images we create. It's a continuous process that always stays interesting!" Emerging fashion photographer Jessica Klingelfuss has shot for Idol, Peppermint, Mirrin, Shuffle and many more, and has just signed on as the senior editorial photographer for On The Streets Of Sydney, which is an online magazine that covers street and underground fashion in Sydney exclusively. She started taking pictures at the age of 16, but it wasn't until about two years ago that she fell into fashion photography specifically: "- It was a natural progression from the work I was doing at university, where I created whimsical installations and quirky portraits so fashion photography was the perfect blend of the two. It also allowed me a freedom with my images I never got out of fine art photography." She admires the work of other photographers, particularly females, such as Ira Chernova, Sophie Delaporte, Lina Scheynius, Julie Pike and Ellen Von Unwerth, and adds: "- However I would say most of the inspiration for my work, perhaps surprisingly, comes from literature and music. Sometimes I will read a book or hear lyrics that stick with me and an idea for an editorial will evolve from that. I try to avoid looking at too much other photography as I don't want to become too influenced by top photographers; as much as I might admire their work I want to try and find my own style." Jessica has a lot of exciting things coming up, including several editorials over the next two months for various international print and online magazines. She is also preparing for a big move: "- I will be moving between London and New York from April so I am in the process of preparing my portfolio and getting ready for the big move - a very stressful but exciting challenge to undertake. I am also working on a personal series of portraits inspired by one of my favourite albums for a solo exhibition I want to have at the end of the year." "- I took my first photography class when I was 16, in high school. But when I was about 7 I got a little weird camera from my mom, I think it was some kind of Minolta Autopack. It brought on this compulsive documentation-phase and I chronicled my grandparents house in a very specific manner. I've since then stopped compulsivily documenting and more and more I just enjoy moments and let them inspire my brain for later photography rather than snapping at everything," says Sarah St Clair Renard, an emerging Los Angeles based photographer who has just shot her first exclusive story for Ben Trovato. Ego Pluralis is a dark story playing on multiple personalities, featuring the fantastic model, musician and actress CC Sheffield. She was styled by Ton Aguilar, her make up was done by Devin Joplin, and her hair by Lana Grand. Sarah says this about the story: "- The inspiration to the story came from images of rockstars in the 70s. Mick Jagger, Patti Smith and the idea of what looks or elements in an image symbolize different personalities. The model, CC Sheffield, is also a brilliant musician and an actress and working with her really brought the story to life. She has such a great raw energy about her and she's secure enough in herself to have fun with it. I really wish I had that experience more often with subjects." Sarah is very much inspired by contemporary art, daily news and random things on the street. She adds: "- love going to museums and voyeristic experiences. Expeditions to places I haven't been before, even if just in the city. There's always more so see and experience in a big city. Yesterday I walked 3 blocks away from my studio and, I swear, it was a different universe. There was a group of Scientologist cleaning the street in their little neat outfits and gangsters with pitbulls in a yard with golden fountains. It made me think of how different we all experience every day. Photography really is all about voyerism for me." A little bit more about Zeb: He lives in Antwerp, Belgium and has been photographing for about 5 years. His work has been published in a gazillion magazines: Glam It, Weekend Knack, So Chic, ILoveFake and Elle Girl to name just a few. He gets inspired by unforgettable movies from his childhood, music and books. Steven Meisel is by far his favourite photographer. At this moment Zeb is retouching some shoots and he got two shoots up his sleeve: one for fashion designer Lena Lumelsky and one for Eastpak. Furthermore: Let the pictures speak for itself!
