Nelson Faria discovered photography in his last year of high school back in 2005, but the road was long before he could call himself a fashion photographer: "- Yes, I remember changing from just pressing a button to starting really to study and compare what I was doing with the final result, planning the shots before pressing the button and experimenting new techniques," he says, but he wouldn't discover what impact photography would have on his life until much later: "- I actually got into the university studying product design and at the same time I got an internship at university's newspaper, but soon I realized that photojournalism wasn't what I wanted to do and decided to try other fields. That's when I discovered that I wanted to do fashion, beauty and music photography." Nelson just got back to Rio de Janeiro, after spending time in Paris where he shot his first Ben Trovato exclusive, Jardin des Tuileries. A story featuring the natural beauty that is Emmie from Slides Models Paris. Emmie was styled by Ana Carvalho, and had hair and make up done by Daria Slusarczyk. Nelson says this about the shoot: "- For this shoot in special I didn't had a strict concept, I was already living in Paris for a couple months and wanted to explore some details that caught my attention several times while walking around… I was looking for textures and patterns, playing with the available light and keeping the styling simple, so I chose to shoot at the Tuileries Garden, and play with what the model and the location where giving to me." He believes everything could be a source of inspiration: "- We are constantly receiving information from all around, our surroundings are a great source of inspiration. We collect memories from travels, places we have been to, feelings, moments of our lives, books, movies, music, people, nature, architecture… we can keep listing forever… All those memories are linked unconsciously and emerge as inspiration." To divide his work between USA, Europe and Brazil is among his biggest dreams, and to achieve that he's planning to keep shooting and developing his photography. "- There is so much to see and learn, lots of new experiences to pass by, but the most important I think is to keep having FUN with my work and be able to make money from what I love to do!" Based out of the Brisbane and Gold Coast area in Queensland, Australia, Dimitar Krkaliev started shooting fashion about a year ago. Unpublished until now, it's not bad making his debut on the international Ben Trovato stage just a year into his career. Days Of Vacancy is a sensual story, featuring Casey Newport from Vivien's Models styled by Natalia Lydford with a wonderful wardrobe provided by White Sands Australia. Make up was done by Julieanne Edwards. Dimitar says this about his story: "- I have always liked the idea of shooting a model in an environment which creates a bit of a contrast to the way she is styled. I had discussed with a stylist I have worked with before about the idea of shooting a story where the model is wearing high end, edgy swimwear in an empty swimming pool... all alone and astray." He finds himself inspired by magazines such as RUSSH, KURV and Monster Children, but his biggest inspiration to date has been one of his closest friends: "- Yes, David Mason - an old school magazine shooter originally from Melbourne who has really helped me grow as an artist." Deliverance of Envy by Jackson Zhao

He was born in Shanghai, but was raised in Vancouver where he grew up with a father with a passion for photography, something that clearly influenced him: "- I used to hate posing for him when I was a kid because he would take forever to manual focus, but I guess it kind of rubbed off on me. I've been photographing as a hobby since high school, but professional for 5 years. I started off with a lucky break in architectural photography shooting ads for luxury hotels and resorts, I loved the clients and the exotics places that it took me to, but my true passion has always been people and fashion. I just love the organic flow and different character every team and outfit brings to the shoot. For me, I don't just love photography because it's a way to express my passion, but it also captures a moment in time that will never occur again, literally. I guess cameras are really time machines!" And what Jackson's time machine captured this time around was a stunning beauty story, exclusive to Ben Trovato. With Lucy Born from Lizbell Agency, styled by Heidi Farnola, with make up done by Andrea Tiller, hair by Christopher Deagle, and nails by manicurist Stephanie Berry, Jackson created Deliverance of Envy. "We wanted to create a story vibrant in color that shows a progression from fantasy to reality," Jackson says, and continues "Many people are so obsessed with creating the perfect image from what society pressures them to do that it literally drives them crazy. I adore trends and respect people's choices but often times their over the top desire to be something they are not consumes their own beautiful character. Lucy did a great job in expressing that internal turmoil and progression, and the team was amazing in making it all happen!" As with many other fashion photographers, people is great source of inspiration for Jackson: "- People inspire me. No matter what shape or race, everyone is so unique and beautiful in their own way. I am so grateful for the opportunities with my travels in work to meet so many amazing people and cultures from around the world. Each one has their unique story and experience that makes me appreciate life even more and inspire me to capture the amazing beauty this world has to offer. You can only live 1 life, but you can make as many friends as you want to share experiences and stories with! Now go out, make friends, and live!" Red Fraction by Renata Raksha

It's been almost six months since we heard from Renata Raksha, back when she made her debut on Ben Trovato. Now she's back, and this time with a fabulous exclusive story. Red Fraction features sizzling Lauren Taylor and Sarah Gingrish, styled by Ashley Zohar, with make up by Michelle Mungcal, and hair by Kristin Heitkotter. Renata says she wanted to pursue a style and beauty she desires herself, and while I kept digging for a deeper meaning, joking about how to present the story, Renata cut me off: "- But really, I just wanted to shoot red lipstick. I can never wear it myself, so I get very jealous of all these beautiful people with their amazing lips that are just begging for color. Clearly, all that's left to do is take photos of them. I wanted very little interference. Maybe the clothing in the story is just an excuse here to bring out the color," she said, before adding "I also wanted to give the shoot a very classic feminine look, I had the Varga Girl images in mind for a couple of the shots. I have to say the models were great. I've worked with Lauren a few times and she is so good! Unfortunately, it was only by the end of the shoot that I found out that she's also a trained dancer. Sarah was so great as well. She had some amazing movement on the stage." Renata is based out of Los Angeles, but is originally from Russia. Read more about Renata and her inspirations here. London based photographer Jun Tan started shooting about three years ago after buying a basic Panasonic digital point and shoot camera. Last year he moved on to more fashion work, and started working with models: "- Yes, and I truly enjoy the whole journey of photography. The mistakes I make, the development and defining of my own style and the creative process." Still being among the up and coming, Jun has capped a few features here and there, but today he's making his debut on Ben Trovato with his story Death Potion. The story features the beautiful Samantha Jackson from Model Division, who also provided the wardrobe, and did the hair and make up. "- I do a lot of location shoots, and most of the time I prefer to use the urban concrete texture to blend in my photos. In Death Potion, I still align to my style and at the same time portray Samantha as a natural and bold character," Jun says, and comments on the title Death Potion: "- I used the coke bottle as the 'death potion', and after sipping from the bottle, she transformed into a different personality and identity, a vamp." He's generally inspired by the people around him, but also mentions childhood memories, dreams and the beauty of women itself. Following the impossible dream

In 1911, exactly a century ago, American photographer Edward Steichen was "dared" by Lucien Vogel, the publisher of Jardin des Modes and La Gazetta du Bon Ton, to promote fashion as a fine art by the use of photography.* This shoot is now widely considered as the first ever modern fashion photography shoot. Since then fashion photography has been represented and developed further by iconic artists such as Cecil Beaton, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, and many more. A few years ago, fashion photography was synonymous with names such as Patrick Demarchelier, Steven Meisel, and Peter Lindbergh. However, this is surely about to change. With the evolution of new media, the bars have been lowered and we have seen a remarkable increase in aspiring artists. Everyone can publish their work before an international audience now by posting an image on Facebook or Flickr. Some might say ubiquity isn't a good thing, pointing out that these days almost everyone can call themselves a "photographer", let alone a fashion photographer. I beg to differ. If only you learn to filter the good from the bad, you will see that the evolution of new media has more than anything enabled unaccomplished artists to explore their creativity at a much faster pace, while at the same time making the process much cheaper and more accessible than what it used to be. The availability has made it easier for the artists to discover and nurture their passions and abilities. Also, the availability of good, affordable cameras as well as the internet, has handed us many talented artists that it is unlikely we would have discovered only ten years ago....

A lot has changed in the life of Solveig Selj since we last had a chat, most importantly perhaps is that she's relocated from Oslo to New York City. A move that would inspire and influence every artist. Having followed her work for a while, I was waiting for the time when she would produce something exclusively for Ben Trovato. And here it is: The American Dream by Solveig Selj. An up beat, feel good fashion film with the ambition to inspire creative artists to seize the day, and live out their dreams. And what better place to do that then on a rooftop in Brooklyn, with the skyline of Manhattan in the background.

"- My friends, they inspire me even more than all of the above! You can see them in my pictures and I would like to thank them all," Maria Kazvan said after having listed up things she finds inspirational. That was in October 2010. But Maria hasn't changed, she collects memories through the lens rather than constructing fictional ones. So when the Lviv based photographer shoot fashion stories you know that what you see is real and honest.

HIGH HEELS TOMATOES by Yohan Ungar

French director Yohan Ungar's new film must be described as something between a fashion film and a turbulent fairy tale. HIGH HEELS TOMATOES is a product of Yohan assembling a team of some of the people he admires the most: " - I wanted to collaborate with friends and people, who's work I admire, such as Antoine Marteau, director of photography for music videos (White Lies, Bob Sinclar, Mona), VFX artistic director Johnny Alves (Harry Potter, Pixels, Evian Commercial), Lydia Gasperoni, fashion editor (Dealer de luxe, Glamour) or hair stylist Matthieu Guignaudeau, (Vuitton, Kooples)." The new rock band "All Animals" brings a kind of flippancy while the new face, Julie Henning, a swedish model living in Paris, gives a delicate touch to the film. Samuel Daynie plays the role of the prince in this story.

Montreal based talents Valérie Boulet and Jose Enrique Montes Hernandez, otherwise known as MarquisMontes, prove to have mastered the art of fashion photography. Partners in both work and life, the dynamic duo both claim that, “Fashion photography was their calling, not only for the creative liberty in which it enables, for mostly for the story telling aspect, that propelled them in this particular field.” Which is easy to agree with, being that we here at Ben Trovato were instantly drawn to their Lola.

The first time I spoke with Noam Griegst was in July 2009, a few days after launching Ben Trovato. At the time we hadn't grown into the international publication Ben Trovato is today, and I never actually got to sit down and talk with Noam about him and his work. So when he contacted us last week and said he had a perfect fashion film for Ben Trovato, I made sure to get a little interview with him.

Andrea Massari was born in Rome in the seventies, but spent his childhood in Sao Paulo, something he describes as a wonderful experience. He started of as an illustrator at the age of 18, before the computers dominated the artform, and most of the artwork was made by hand. Photography came into his life years later: "- I was 27 and step by step, I started to get a very good feeling with camera and shootings rather than white canvases and brushes! At the beginning I worked a lot as a still life and portrait photographer for advertisement, but then fashion photography came in and gave me the opportunity to express myself in a more intimate way...
