Back in November 2010, Anna Cone and Christopher Nelson told us they had some exciting things coming up, and if you ask me they've been killing it pretty much ever since they relocated from New York, and started working together. Now, about five months later they're back on Ben Trovato with an exclusive story only to show they are really worth paying attention to. Deserted features the dazzling Brea Peck from LA Models, who was styled by Van Van, had make up done by Iris Moreau, hair by Sienree Du for Unite Eurotherapy. Anna and Christopher says this about their story: "- For this shoot we wanted to create an ethereal mood out in the California desert. The location, an abandoned theme park a few hours outside of LA, was an inspirational backdrop with it's stark, simple structures set against the vast desert landscape." The Road To Solvang by Adam Rindy

Inspired by every road trip he had ever taken, and the curiosity of seeing more of the world we normally just gaze at through the window of our passing cars, Adam Rindy set out to shoot his first Ben Trovato Exclusive. "- With only the words road trip in our minds, myself, a hairstylist, make up artist, wardrobe stylist, and model, jumped in the car with no rhyme or reason. Just in hopes that we could venture far enough out our normal Los Angeles surroundings to get inspired to shoot something fun without the hassle of a client or art director looking over our shoulders. We headed north on the PCH hoping to make it to Solvang, ca. I admit that we never made there, but I didn't want our efforts to go unappreciated, hence the title of the shoot. We made it as far as Santa Barbara and shot photos the entire way there, stopping any and everywhere in between. The trip was a ton of fun and we got to see some beautiful sites while we were at it. This was certainly the most fun I've had on a shoot since 2011 began," he says when describing the day of the shoot. The Road To Solvang captures the gorgeous Amanda Miller from Ford LA in beautiful surroundings along the Californian coastline. Amanda was styled by Sheree Carella, had her hair done by Jenn Taniguchi, and her make up done by Amanda Ficor. Los Angeles based Adam Rindy got his first camera for his 16th birthday, without really being too excited about it: "- I didn't think to much of it at first, I just know I wanted a camera. I began photographing all my friends and all the horrible decisions they would make. Some of those photos are rather shocking, especially for how young we were. After a few years of doing this I realized that I love shooting pictures of people, and haven't stop doing it since." As of right now, he's working with several clothing companies, helping them to rebrand their image and look with his photographs. And What's next? "- The next big thing I am shooting though is actually another road trip story! I loved this so much that I am in works of doing another one." Photography by Lukasz Pukowiec

As with many other photographers, it all started with getting a camera as a present, and when holding his first camera about four years ago Polish Lukasz Pukowiec had no idea that he would become a fashion photographer: "- I don't know if it even was a hobby, everything came kinda spontaneously. I absolutely didn't think that I would become a fashion photographer, although I've always had a weakness for fashion." At the age of 18 he was already shooting his first editorial, for Fashion Magazine (Poland). A year later, he has shot for other publications such as Vanity Teen, Fiasco magazine, and Umno magazine, and there are much more to come. Lukasz looks for inspiration everywhere, wether he's just walking down the street, or when working together with a stylist: "- I draw many ideas from movies, and even fairytales, it's fantastic that in practically everything you can find something interesting," he says, before adding: "- I don't think I have a particular style, I like to change. I love flowers and they are often the main motive of my photos. I like when it feels "romantic" and "magic", when the models look "magic" as from another planet." Here's some of his work: More pictures inside the post.

Paint by Aram Bedrossian

Aram Bedrossian started his photography career in August of 2010, a few months after he left his hometown of San Francisco and moved to New York City. His work has yet to hit the shelves, but he has shot for the new magazines, Bullett and Love Rats, which will debut in New York shops in this May. Simultaneously, Aram shot PAINT, a colorful and playful exclusive story for Ben Trovato, featuring the striking Mick Szal from Wilhelmina, who was styled by Carissa Cirino, had hair done by Sabrina Rowe, and make up by Brian Bracero. Aram says this about the story: "- I wanted to shoot a bright studio shoot and my stylist (Carissa Cirino) and I decided to go with the common spring trend of bright colored clothes. From there, we tried to figure out a way to make the story cooler and more memorable than your everyday brightly lit, color-block story. After a few hours of brainstorming, Carissa proposed the idea of incorporating paint into the photographs, which then led me to brew up the final concepts behind each photograph of the story." Aram says that when searching for inspiration he's not the one to flip through stacks of Vogue, finding a muse, or studying the works of great photographers: "- instead, I've grown to be extremely perceptive of my surroundings and allow inspiration to come to me. That said, something as obvious as a gorgeous Numero cover or a stroll down New York's Greenwich Village can inspire me, but at the same token, something as simple as stumbling over an empty paint can at a friends apartment can inspire me the same." Here's Paint by Aram Bedrossian, for Ben Trovato (Make sure to check out the behind the scenes film at the bottom of the post.): Credits Photography - Aram Bedrossian Styling - Carissa Cirino Hair - Sabrina Rowe Make up - Brian Bracero Model - Mick Szal @ Wilhelmina Assistants - Jaf, Theodore Samuels, Adam Tremblay Full story inside the post.

The Rose by Andrew Brauteseth

Film is increasingly used as a medium to present fashion, and as more photographers try to stay on top of the game they often jump on the film-wagon way too soon. As discussed before on Ben Trovato, with the award winning directors Ben Briand and Paul Minor, photographers that are used to shoot stills often forgets how important the narrative is when producing a film. "Fashion films got popular very quickly due to new camera technology making it easy for almost everyone to record HD video. This evolution in technology has allowed photographers to create moving versions of their typically still images, leaving a vacuum- flat stories lacking narratives." (Ben Trovato March 17th, 2011) So when Cape Town based photographer Andrew Brauteseth felt tempted to produce his first fashion film, he was fully aware that he had to prepare well: "- A film scene may be intensely art-directed and meticulously framed but they often lack that sticky stuff which binds reel to reel and audience to screen: a proper story. So when I first decided to dip my toes in that vast pool of moving stills, I followed a road laid by some proven photographer-directors who’s style I admire: the Aveillan’s and Darlings of this world. Bruno Aveillan because of the sensual dousing of motion and metaphor in ads for Louis Vuitton and Lanvin. And Jeffery Darling because of his gift for these wandering snapshot montages. Just take a look at the work he’s done for Diners Club." The Rose is a beautiful story featuring model Ansellia Adams as ‘Anna’ set in the mood by the wonderful music of Yann Tiersen, perfectly styled by Catherine Bowen, and with make up done by Natalie Roos. "- When I started writing 'The Rose', I told myself just to treat it as an experiment. And now it’s ended up as something I really enjoy. I try to see it as a crossover between the eye-meltingly sensual language of the classic french perfume piece (see ads like Slip Into / Oxygen) mixed with a Parisian charm and mystery you find in french films like Amélie," says Andrew, who actually made his first appearance on Ben Trovato back in December 2010 with the exclusive story Blown Away. Here's The Rose by Andrew Brauteseth (Film inside the post!): Credits Director & DOP - Andrew Brauteseth Actor - Ansellia Adams as 'Anna' (from Outlaws CT) Styling - Catherine Bowen Make-up - Natalie Roos Assisted by Shaun Bond and Eeden La Grange Voice of Xavier Dewarimez Music by Yann Tiersen Special thanks to Photohire Cape Town for Briese lighting. In Bloom by Fiona Garden

"- The fashion and photographic industries already felt like home, so when I got bored of modeling, the next phase of my career evolved quite naturally," says the London based photographer Fiona Garden when describing how she got into the business. The former model explains how she's had a camera in her hand since her first Pentax K-1000 when she was 15, and after having modeled through her teens and early twenties she was already familiar with the ins and outs of the fashion photography world when finally making the jump. Now her work has appeared in publications such as Italian Vogue, Ballad Of, Design Bureau, and Color, and today she's finally making her debut on Ben Trovato. In Bloom by Fiona Garden depicts the classic beauty Jude from Union Models, styled to perfection by Victoria Sekrier with fashion from Vivienne Westwood, Urban Outfitters, Derek Lam and others. Make up was done by Oscar Alexander Lundberg, and hair by Michael John. "- A pop of color and movement, out of the corner of your eye, brightening the city grays," Fiona says while explaining the story, and continues:"- Stylist Victoria Sekrier had a vision for the color pallet and I brought into the frame the use of malleable reflective kaleidoscopes, made by my husband, artist Ben Ashton. Michael John's hair reflected the movement and modernity that we had in mind, and Oscar Alexander's makeup design spoke to the confident burst of color in a soft monochromatic surrounding. I know it sounds so cliché but it really is the team, working together and each doing what they love, that make a story something special." She's inspired by the ways in which light light and dark coexists - the infinite variations: "- and by compulsively capturing those fleeting moments, as proof that they actually happened. I'm also inspired by any really beautiful, elegant photographic work, contemporary or otherwise - the classics of course: Avedon, Demarchelier, Lindbergh, Newton." Giovanni Martins has been shooting for about 4 years, after getting into photography at the Willem de Kooning academy in the Netherlands when studying Lifestyle and Design: "- I was interested in the fashion photography part of the course, more than anything else," he says. After completing the school in Netherlands he continued his education in London at London College of Fashion, where he graduated with a degree in Fashion Photography. In the four years of shooting he's had his work published in publications such as Real magazine, Jessica Joyce, Idol mag, Amfi magazine, and Supperclub, and today he's making his debut on Ben Trovato. Inertia by Giovanni Martins is a dark story featuring models Ruby Slate Balthazar and Dany Mack, styled by Paku Sukuda, and with make up by Takahiro M. Giovanni says this about the story: "- 'Inertia' is inspired by 'death' but not in the cliche sense of the word, think darkness, decay, suffocation and cancercells, these are a few topics that are highlighted in this story," He generally finds inspiration in the works of talented designers and photography, both established and up and coming:"- Imagery from photographers such as Inez van Lamsweerde and Erwin Olaf always get my attention and inspire me to push my own boundaries. Collections of designers such as Viktor & Rolf, Gareth Pugh are always very conceptual and are amongst my favorites." Coming from a theatre background, Michael Flores started shooting at the age of 14 taking self-portraits in different types of make-up and different locations near where he lived, something that quickly became his way of communicating his message: "- I wanted to tell stories and image making became my medium to do so." The Los Angeles and New York CIty based photographer mentions fashion photography and portraiture of the past, image makers such as Corrine Day, Peter Lindbergh, Paul Jasmin, and Bruce Davidson to be inspirational, but he is most inspired by his immediate surroundings: "- I’m inspired the diverse landscape and visceral light of Los Angeles and the West Coast." Michael's work has been published in publications such as Twin Magazine, Nylon Magazine, Flaunt Magazine, British Vogue online, and a few more, and his commercial clients include Dior, Revolve Clothing.com, Study Footwear, and Rebel Yell. Next up for Michael is a two month hiatus from Los Angeles: "- I’m leaving for New York to create images with new people. I’ve also been quietly working on developing the moving image side of my work." We are excited to see what he comes up with! Here's some of his work: More pictures inside the post.

Meant To Be by Bo Zhang

"- I have worked on many fashion shoots with models as young as 14 and asking them to present themselves in a much more mature manner, as someone years older," he explains, and continues: "- Oftentimes, we lose sight of the fact that these models are just young girls. Hence, with "Meant To Be", I wanted to explore the youthful side of models; specifically the feminine friendship and the idea of innocent, sometimes naive, childhood codependence between two girls." That's how NYC based photographer Bo Zhang explains the concept of his first ever Ben Trovato exclusive, Meant To Be. The story includes models Kristina V and Katie Z, both from MC2 Model Mgmt NY, styled by Brit Cato, with make up done by Chifumi Nambashi, and hair by Bethany Brill. Bo was born in China, raised in the US, educated in England, and wasn't actually planning to become a photographer: "- I started as an engineer, and then switched to photography to do what I enjoy. I taught myself fashion photography and have been shooting for a little over 2 years now." Originally from el Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico (or in short: Puerto Rico), Mara Corsino received an SLR camera from her mom at early age which had a profound impact on her later in life. Besides playing spy at school with her camera she also took some black and white photography classes with a well-known photo reporter in Puerto Rico. Mara loved every part of it - from snapping to printing in the dark room. Today, in May 2011, I was instantly attracted to her Oyster Mag shoot and decided to contact and interview her: You were born in Puerto Rico and now based in Milan, was the move to Milan a purposeful decisions? "- Yes, I was born in Puerto Rico and been living in Milan for about 4 years now. I had already stayed for a while in Rome and was looking forward to a change of air. Milan seemed like a great next option as I wanted to concentrate more on photography, and fashion photography seemed like a fun way to start. For my photography the fact that Milan is one of the fashion capitals makes it easier to be in contact with the flow of talent and creativity." The other day I was crawling the internet for you and noticed you initiated a food/fashion blog, can I conclude you enjoy cooking as well? "- Well Haute Food is a blog I’ve recently started with the help of some close colleagues as a way to vent our passion for food, fashion and photography research. It spans from vintage advertising, celebrity pictures, film, music and of course fashion. Yes! I love to cook! I’d say that I’m particularly proud of my home made egg pasta with garlic, oil and hot pepper (aglio, olio, peperoncino) - it’s like a vice." Congratulations with your work for Oyster Mag, do you have the feeling you enjoyed enough freedom to do whatever you wanted to do in this shoot? What are you working on at the moment? "- Thanks!!! Actually, I really felt quite free with the shoot, because they were looking for the type of images that comes to me naturally. Besides other work, at the moment I’m working on some shoots for Italy and UK and some campaign images which I think should be secret. I don’t believe that much superstition but I love the suspense!" Thank you Mara and whenever I'm Milan and will drop by for your famous egg pasta. And for our lovely readers: 15 more pictures after the jump! "- I am inspired by rebels, scientists, activists - basically anyone who dares look at the world differently from the corporate-media perpetuated military-fascist status quo," says the Los Angeles based photographer Ben Miller, and sets the standard for our interview straight away. Ben has been shooting on and off for about 10 years now, his work includes fine art, fashion, travel, and people, and he shot for publications such as Newsweek, Seventeen, Food & Wine, Wine Spectator, and Heart Magazines. Today he's making his debut on Ben Trovato with the wonderful Daydream, including models Isao and Jessica with Q Models LA, and Kris and Rebecca who's not represented yet. Stylist for the shoot was Stephanie Powers, who put together fashion reflecting a band of modern western gypsy nomads. Ben says this about Daydream: "- I wanted to capture the conflicting feelings of freedom, uncertainty, hope, love, togetherness and loneliness that one feels when traveling in a new, strange place with friends. This was manifested in a story about a young group of friends exploring an abandoned wasteland in the desert. The memories of the place infuses their minds and the story with wonders of what once was." Today we're running the Oslo based photographer's first Ben Trovato Exclusive. Pure features the beautiful Hanna Sørheim from Team Models, who actually just signed for VIVA in Paris. When first attending university, Erica Fava was planning to become a web designer, but shortly after starting her education she found herself occupied by photography. She started out with a little point and shoot camera about 8 years ago, and around 2 years ago she discovered "the crazy fashion world," as she calls it. Now she's been published in several print and online magazines all over, and today the Rome based photographer is making her debut on Ben Trovato. Around The Block was shot in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan NYC, and features the fabulous Swiss-Haitian model Alizee Gaillard, who was the first runner up in France's Next Top Model, back in 2005. She's now represented by Elite London among others. Stylist of the shoot was Oscar Montes De Oca, using fashion from H&M, Top Shop, Vivienne Westwood, and others. Erica says this about the story: "- I had this great model and I tried to do an original story, showing the side of New York I loved most. I loved the Deli, the lights, and Hell's kitchen was a great place to live in." New York City based photographer Curtis Eberhardt started out studying cinema and painting at the Art Institute of Chicago, and then later moving to NY and getting his Fine Arts Masters degree in painting at NYU. Painting awakened the interest in photography from an earlier stage in his life, and now he's shooting fulltime: "- I was most influenced by studying at the Art Institute of Chicago and studying cinema and painting there, especially the cinematic work and teachings there of Stan Brakhage. The Avant Garde cinema world was very strong there and I try to convey a cinematic vision in my photographic work." He is also inspired by the works of Steven Meisel, Guy Bourdin, William Eggleston, Edward Steicen, Sarah Moon, Deborah Turbeville and many of the predominately female fashion photographers he's discovered on Flickr: "- There's a certain female sensibility that seems consciously or unconsciously inspired by Deborah Turbeville and has been expanded upon. A lot of the work I've discovered there transcends being dependent on "fashion" for it to be relevant as art. I'm interested in work that's timeless." His work has been featured in magazines such as Soma Magazine, Yes, Please, Sleek, Harper's Bazaar, Manhattan, Vanidad, Style Monte Carlo, Allure, Vogue, and many more. Recently he's been shooting for a lot for Mercura glasses, a brand that has been getting a lot of attention lately with Elton John on the cover of Pop:" - I shoot them a lot as I love the feeling they bring to any shoot -cool, hip, mysterious, fun and sophisticated all at the same time." Curtis' plans for the future are to keep pushing his sense of discovery and staying inspired, as well as finding interesting editorials and commercial jobs that are looking for a unique vision. He's also exploring shoots that includes only him and the model: "- After so much work with high fashion and large teams I'm interested in the intimacy captured and revealed by the model when she's alone, and I like process of dialogue that leads to this." Inspired by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, Kirsten Becken and her team set off to an amusement park near the Dutch border in Germany to shoot her first Ben Trovato exclusive story. The Düsseldorf based photographer made her debut on Ben Trovato back in January, where she explained how locations with character and a certain feel to it are important to her. Alice in Wonderland features former Germany's Next Topmodel contestant Neele Hehemann from Vivienne Models, and unrepresented Hanna Bohnenkamp. They were both styled by Cäthe Klein, and had hair and make up done by Phuong Thai. When I asked Kirsten to say a few words about the story, she would rather quote the book that inspired the story: "But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here." His debut on Ben Trovato in April with Serenade : Nefertiti was highly popular, and now the Jakarta based photographer is back again with another wonderful conceptual story. Nocturne: Shiryo features model Dara Warganegara, a fresh face from B-Mgt, who was styled by Andhika Dharmapermana, and had make up and hair done by Husein Yunior. Advan says this about the story: "- According to Japanese folklore, Shiryo means dead spirit. It also means “faint” or “dim”. On this story, I orchestrated the darkness ambience into the photo shoot, with silent mood trough spotted light on model only, native Japanese make up and hair done by Husein Yunior, and black on black layering on the garments with tulle, satin and chiffon material styled by Andhika Dharmapermana. Each piece is constructed into new look of garments. In relation with Piano Black, this series belongs in Nocturne. Nocturne itself is music that is inspired by the night." In April, Advan told us he grew up in a house of music, creativity, and has played piano, sung, written, and painted for as long as he can remember. Read more here. Jason Schembri grew up in Sydney, and has always had an interest in photography. But it wasn't until he got to college he really started shooting: "- The high school I attended wasn't very well equipped in regards to a darkroom and equipment, so once I left school I went straight into a photography college, which was around the time I started shooting." Now he's been shooting for about five years, and his work has been published in magazines such as Academy for Men, Peppermint Magazine and Aesthetica Magazine. But Jason is just getting started, and he has a lot more coming up later this year: "- I'm going to keep shooting and start working on bigger projects in the next few months, including more magazine work and exhibitions. I'd like to start focusing on finding my feet in the industry, and eventually I'd like to base myself between Sydney and London." When I asked him about his inspirations, he explains that he's always had a strong obsession with ancient Greek mythology: "- It's so bitter-sweet, a tragic world of mystery, beauty and ugliness. I'm also inspired by the work of Helmut Newton, particularly the way he depicts these women as so powerful and sexual. That being said, my biggest inspiration would probably be people in general. Strangers on the train, people I come across while travelling, I like to make up stories in my mind about who they are and what they do, and whenever that happens I get a strong itch to pick up my camera and try to show that." Mariano Nocitto approached me last year after just having shot fashion for a few months, and asked me if I could look at some of the pictures he had taken of his friends. It ended up in a highly popular feature of his work on Ben Trovato in September. After this Mariano kept shooting like never before, and he keeps getting better and better. That's why we were very excited when he in December contacted us from Buenos Aires and asked if he could shoot a story for us. Thousands of shots and 6 months later, his first Ben Trovato Exclusive is ready to be published! Took Out A Loan features the mesmerizing Lucila Godoy from Civiles, who was styled by Lucila Santoro. Mariano says the story is about portraying fashion in a place where it doesn't belong:"- In the presence of the city, fashion is everywhere. But in places where we naturally belong fashion becomes the outcast."
